Finishing up SharePoint 2010 Unleashed
It's been a long haul, but Michael Noel and I are putting the finishing touches on our newest tome "SharePoint 2010 Unleashed" from Sams Publishing. It took a good six months of work but I think readers will be pleased. During this time period we've been installing SharePoint 2010 for our clients, so we were able to validate our processes and recommendations "in the wild."
We worked hard to not just produce a book that walks through each and every feature provided by SharePoint (which number in the thousands) but to focus on the most important innovations in the product line that translate to actual end user value. We also focus on areas where SharePoint needs to interact with your existing network environment. For example, SharePoint's interaction with Exchange is critical for alerts to work and for in-bound emails to work. Likewise, SharePoint needs to be able to import Active Directory information for general functionality and to compile audiences and for other processes. SQL maintenance is important, securing SharePoint is important, and customizing SharePoint using SharePoint Designer 2010 and Visual Studio 2010 are more important than ever.
In the coming weeks I'll focus on best practices that correspond to SharePoint 2010 and expound upon them to build on what the book offers.
