What is Malware and How do I get rid of it?
Malware is the name that is given to generally bad programs that can not be classified as a virus. A few good examples of malware are “Win XP AntiVirus 2008/2009″, “Win Defender 2009″ and “CoreGuard”. Once these programs find a way to install themselves on your computer, it will send a pop-up window telling you it has detected lots of viruses and you need to go to their website and buy their software to remove it. If you check your add/remove programs, you wont find this software listed. It hides itself all over your computer making it very difficult to remove.
Antivirus programs don’t generally detect this kind of software on your computer since it looks like any other program and does not display the characteristics of a virus. You will need to install an anti-malware program to find these kinds of programs. One of the best anti-malware programs out there, and it is totally FREE right now, is called “Malwarebytes”. When you partner your antivirus program up with a good malware program like Malwarebytes, you are helping to create a much stronger line of defense between your computer and all the bad things running around on the internet.
Some of the pay-for antivirus programs like Norton/Symantec and McAfee have versions of their software that also help against malware and spyware but you pay a premium each year for that protection. Why pay each year when they do not guarantee that your computer will remain virus and malware free? In most cases, the average internet user is just as safe using a FREE antivirus program like AVG or Avast and partnering it up with Malwarebytes as they would be if they paid $50 a year for the big name all-in-one solutions.

Microsoft Great Plains 7.5 on Pervasive SQL Migration to Windows 2008 Server Notes
We would like to share with potential customers or Microsoft Dynamics GP consultants our successful redeployment of old Great Plains Dynamics on new Microsoft Windows 2008 Server 2008. This opens good strata of possibilities for old versions Great Plains and Dynamics GP customers on Pervasive SQL 2000 to move from Windows 2000 or Windows NT Server to Windows 2008 or Windows 2003 Server and redeploy Great Plains user workstations on Windows XP or Vista. There is always a possibility to upgrade to newest Dynamics GP version 10.0, which requires migration from Pervasive SQL to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for Great Plains 7.0, however we understand that if you decided to stay with old version, this decision probably was based on the lack of budget to pay Great Plains annual enhancement program
1. Migration Scenario. We had Pervasive SQL Server 2000 SP2 running on Windows XP workstation (deployed as Great Plains Server). Great Plains User workstations were on Windows 95 (this is in our opinion the same as if they would have poor hardware with Windows 97, Windows 2000, or even first releases of Windows XP). Target was to move them to Windows 2008 Server (please, do not expect too much miracles, it should be 32 bit edition, it is unlikely that you could install Pervasive SQL 2000 SP 3 maximum on 64 bit platform, if you find out how to do this - let us know and we will ship you small pocket aquarium). FRx was not deployed in this environment, but we know that old FRx Sysdata folder is not supported on Windows 64 bit platform
2. Great Plains Server Side Installation. Load Pervasive SQL 2003 Service Pack 3 (we recommend this service pack, as you do not have to alter Pervasive Engine Settings, for older SPs you need to check with GP techknowledge on the Settings required changes). Open Port 3351 on Windows 2008 Firewall - as you may know Windows 2008 Server blocks all the ports, except the ones used by required services (Pervasive SQL 2000 is definitely not one of those). Copy Great Plains Database Folder (typically named Dynamics from old server to the new one) and share this folder. In security for this shared folder add Domain Users to have Full Control (this is required by Pervasive SQL 2000 data access, adding and modification model)
3. Great Plains Client Installation. Please, insert Great Plains CD#1 (if you have additional modules such as Fixed Assets, Manufacturing, Human Resources, there is no need to install them as we will copy their libraries from old Great Plains Workstation, see our notes below) and follow the steps to install Multiuser workstation. Use the same path as you had it for legacy installation, usually C:Dynamics. When user workstation installation is done, rename C:Dynamics folder to C:OldDynamics. Then copy old Dynamics GP workstation to your new user workstation computer to the same folder, in our case C:Dynamics. If you have third party add-ons, such as Wenn Soft Field Service, please read Great Plains ISV add-on documentation. In the case of Wenn Soft we were able to enable it by registering WS*.dll, simply copy them from your GP workstation to System32 folder on each user workstation and register them via REGSVR32 command. If you do not do this you will get error message on Great Plains login and Wenn Soft card login: Decrypt Service Failed to Start. If your old Pervasive SQL based Great Plains system was on UNC Path, you will need location translation service or help
4. Intellisol. This add-on was not present in our tested migration, however we believe that Intellisol Advance Purchase Order Processing or Project Accounting would require similar approach
5. Great Plains Accounting For DOS and Windows 9.5, 9.2, 9.1 or earlier versions. Yes, you got it - if you still have this legacy Corporate ERP in production, we support it. We support GPA for local customers in Chicagoland, or if you are in USA and Canada we support it via web session and other remote support technologies. We tried and got success in GPA for DOS and Windows redeployment on Windows 2003 Server Release 2, where GPA workstations were on Windows XP Professional
6. Old Dynamics version upgrade path. In case if you decide that it is now time to invest in Corporate ERP system re-haul and upgrade, what we need from you is to sign Dynamics GP Switch VAR form to Alba Spectrum . Then we will be your broker for Microsoft Business Solutions, and we should be able to add new company in the case if you are on Great Plains Accounting for DOS or Windows and give you its registration key. If you are on Great Plains Dynamics 6.0, 5.5. 5.0, 4.0, 3.2 or earlier your upgrade path should be reviewed. Simply call us and have us to see via remote connection or web session you current Great Plains Workstation

Microsoft Dynamics GP FRx Reporting Notes from the Fields
If you are Dynamics GP Corporate ERP application in your organization, where Financial Reporting is built on FRx platform, we would like to share with you some technology notes about FRx. Current version of Microsoft Dynamics GP is 10.0 (Dynamics GP 11.0 should be released in first half of 2010) and current version of FRx Financial Reporting is 6.7 (Service Pack 10). FRx is covering multiple Accounting packages, this is its strength and at the same time this fact exposes FRx to some additional overheads in supporting and reports design and re-haul:
1. Modifying Dynamics GP Chart of Accounts and FRx potential issues. This is normal to decide on Great Plains Chart of Accounts restructure, especially considering the fact that GL accounts distribution tables (GL20000, GL10000, GL10001, GL30000) are based on Account Index field (not physical accounts segments). So, you can go ahead and change accounts segments, if you have clear one-to-one picture (and designed SQL scripts accordingly). However the challenge for FRx might appear when you change normal balance from Debit to Credit or vice versa. FRx for Dynamics GP looks at GL Account Current Summary Master table (GL10110) in order to expedite results, so if your GL10110 table has old summaries - the only way to force your FRx Balance Sheet report to balance is to reconcile accounts. Typical accounts and account groups for changing its typical balance are in Assets: Accumulated Depreciation and Amortization, and in Equity: Dividends (C or S Corporation), Partner Draws (LLC). Plus, if you have multiple companies in consolidated reporting, you may decide to review Due to and Due from sections (AP and AR)
2. "Changed Default Base Period to C" - this issue is often considered as mysterious, but the explanation is quite simple. You typically have this error message in the first week of January in New Year (or in the initial week of your fiscal year, if it is different from Calendar Year). You have to build fiscal periods (typically months) in each Dynamics GP companies (if they are participating in consolidated FRx report), then you have to rebuild GL indexes in FRx itself for each company. GL Indexes rebuilding is FRx setting sensitive. In some case you have to delete *.G32 files (specific GL indexes cashing file in FRx Sysdata directory). Often you can do the same job by simply change Default Company in FRx one by one and watch how GL indexes are rebuilt in left bottom status bar line. The way to setup automatic GL indexes rebuild is to go to Admin -> System Preferences and check there GL automatic index rebuild
3. Older versions of FRx and Microsoft Dynamics GP, Great Plains Dynamics or eEnterprise: 10.0, 9.0, 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0, 3.2. FRx Financial Reporting came all the way from earlier Great Plains Software Dynamics versions to the current version of Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. However FRx didn't change much in its functionality, and FRx report designer, who is familiar with FRx 6.7 for Dynamics GP 10.0 should be able to modify or recover FRx report for earlier Great Plains versions (FRx 6.5 or earlier, including FRx for Dynamics GP on Pervasive SQL 2000 or Ctree)

Introduction to Microsoft .NET Technology
One important aspect of the .NET strategy is its independence from a specific language or platform. Developers can create a .NET application in any .NET - compatible language and participate in the same software project writing code in the .NET languages in which they are most competent (such as Visual C++.NET, Visual Basic .NET, C#, Perl and others). Part of the .NET software environment includes Active Server Pages (ASP) .NET technology, which allows developers to develop applications for the Web.
The .Net architecture can exist on multiple platforms, further extending the portability of .NET programs. Additionally, the .NET software environment involves a new program development process that could change the way programs are written and executed, leading to increased productivity.
The most important component of the .NET architecture is Web Services, which are applications that can be used over the Internet. One example of a Web service is the tour operator's flights booking system. The tour operator wanted to enable customers to book flights from the tour operator's Web site. To do so, the tour operator needed to access the airline's booking system. In response, an airline partner created a Web service that allowed the tour operator to access the airline's database and make bookings. Web services enable the two companies to communicate over the Web, even if they use the different operating systems (the tour operator uses UNIX and the airline uses Windows). By creating a Web service, the airline can allow other tour operators to use its booking system without creating a new program.
The .NET strategy extends the concept of software reuse to the Internet, allowing developers to concentrate on their specialties without having to implement every component of every application. Instead, companies can buy Web services and devote their time and energy to developing their products.
The .NET strategy incorporates the idea of software reuse. When companies link their products in this way, a new user experience emerges. For example, an online store could buy Web services for online credit-card payments, user authentication and inventory databases to create an e-commerce Web site.
